first round technically was a call with me, that's just to establish we can communicate next thing is i want to get technical on something design related, just something the applicant can put some thought into without me staring at them, then we have another chat to go over it

I’d consider looking at portfolios and having someone walk you through a previous project or two on that first call (If going well). Gather their way of thinking and learn what their role was. Whittle the list down. Do paid projects with 2-5 finalists, focused on a single page
