Can't believe this but I'm considering writing a static site templating engine.

This is for http://museapp.com , which is HTML+CSS+light JS with only a few pages. But there are a few shared elements and some variables that differ between staging and production.

My goals are: - Be able to insert env vars, e.g. DOMAIN_NAME - Be able to pull in a partial, e.g. include 'header.html' - No complex dependencies or build toolchains - Instantaneous build/reload loop in development - Deploy build script on Netlify for production

Looked at Hugo, Gatsby, Mackerel, Minimal and others. Guess these are for blogs with date-ordered posts, so not really a fit.

Jade (http://jade-lang.com/ , thanks
@robenkleene) is interesting but doubt I want a new language in my toolchain. I like writing HTML and CSS.2 replies 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
Mustache or even good ol' ERB aren't bad. But they seem to be libraries intended to plug into a dynamic framework (e.g. Express, Sinatra) rather than for static site generation.

Maybe something like this: <html> <body> {{include 'my-header.html'}} <h1>Welcome to {{DOMAIN_NAME}}</h1>

Does such a thing exist? Or maybe I'm just looking for mod_php circa 2003 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should talk to @srobbin about his http://Vapid.com project. It's potentially exactly what you want, and I think he might be interested in extra eyes/hands on it.

Replying to @DanielZarick @srobbin
Looks nice although the main proposition seems to be a web dashboard which I don't need
