One of the worst things about Twitter is that it incentivizes posting declarative statements. No hedging, no "maybe", no "my thinking is". A lot of dumb statements tend to be taken as fact and spread further than the more even-handed takes.

The lionization of "clear thinkers", contrarianism, etc has put us in this pickle where people feel the need to express simple thoughts in a way as if they're special. And then audience eats it up. So the incentives encourage it.

I generally am hedge-ish too. There's indeed value to having conviction in your thoughts and expressing them strongly. But at some point it either becomes destructive or a lie, IMO.
