Animal Crossing could be an amazing online social life ("the metaverse"
) if Nintendo was *much* better at building online experiences.
Imagine if AC had voice in-game, you could visit friends w/o the awkward offline social handshakes, and a lot more. It'd be so fun.

this seems next for social: myspace was a sort of garden you curated around yourself + visited others. blogs too. then minecraft on the game side, but not really the mainstream side. third places as expressions, as easily visited living rooms of your friends

we forfeited so much of that to go to feeds: you can't even change your twitter colour anymore. facebook, reddit, they're public spaces, and we've optimized for reach, but maybe reach sucks. then we moved to private slack groups, but they're still just text, just IM. no gardens
