This isn’t about basecamp necessarily, but a lot of “indie“ businesses talk a big game but only a handful of people are getting rich off the labor of many. VC-funded startups have many issues with how they compensate people, but everybody is at least playing in the same system.https://twitter.com/DanielZarick/status/1233145173833658378 …

I know multiple companies where the owners are millionaires and many of their critical employees have tens of thousands in debt. I also know dozens+ of people who’ve made hundreds of thousands or millions off their stock. It’s meaningful to their ability to retire, etc.

Including my mom, who works for a large restaurant chain. They give RSUs to their employees as part of the quarterly bonus. That’s a huge piece of her ability to retireme in a few years.

Yes lots of people end up making little to nothing off the promise of their tiny stock in a company. But it’s an easy thing to give and could end up meaning the world to them.
