I rely on Foursquare for restaurants and bars, NYT’s “36 hours in”, and GMaps for transit. I also try to find the cool neighborhoods via Google, and then just wander around.

I forget where I read it, but ask in the cab from the airport ask him where he eats lunch. Not what’s good, but where he goes. When you have access to the whole city you find some good, cheap places and the neighborhoods they’re in are usually interesting.

Walk, learn transit, talk to people when you eat/coffee and ask for reccos, ask people for directions vs using phone, go on a date/ask someone to dinner that you meet
