A few months ago @WIRED asked me to write down what I still love about tech, now that the industry's shine is dulled by mass distrust. Here it is:https://www.wired.com/story/why-we-love-tech-defense-difficult-industry/ …

They put it on the cover. Long low whistle! Getting a quote and my name splashed across the cover of
@WIRED (a national monthly!) is a helluva thing for a rumpled nerd. In a few years I'll know what to make of it.pic.twitter.com/Zrag5c3pzp

I hope you'll find this essay useful (love/hate/annoyance) as you navigate your own individual path through the superstructure of global platform technocracy. It was hard to write, and hugely helped along by a great editor,
@vtitunik, who gently encouraged much rewriting.4 replies 0 retweets 58 likesShow this thread -

These are inclusive charities, run by women and/or people of color. Several teach people who are marginalized by tech-at-large how to wield some of the power of this industry in their own interests, and one uses a technology platform to directly reduce suffering.

I am grateful for all the good things that come to me, like the opportunity to write cover stories for national magazines that I've read for 25 years. Amongst those good things I count your tweets, DMs, and emails (paul.ford@postlight.com). __EOT__
