There’s a whole crop of super young drivers making their way into @F1 who first became obsessed with racing by playing video games. Then they get Pro simulator setups at home, and drive insane hours, often streaming. It’s unlocking a whole interesting future.
There’s a great @F1 / e-sports article waiting to be written... e.g. @LandoNorris is 19 & just showed up strong to the first qualifying. Spent years doing sim racing from home (also racing real cars), plus has a great YouTube channel. Might know the tracks better than anybody.

To be fair to him, he’s climbed the junior ranks of motorsport to get in F1. Sim racing is a big thing drivers do in-between races, although you’ll never get one come from gaming - maybe a team sim driver on strategy side.

Absolutely. I get that, and he started in karting. Just saying that evolution and his time outside of the car is very different than drivers 10-20 years ago. All these young drivers.
