    i think that to be a propagandist, it's hard not to come to believe it over time, even if you invent it.

  5. If it's just outright dishonesty, then they can't be convinced by facts because they're not interested in facts. They will say anything.

  6. Neither option is good. If they believe their own propaganda, they're irrational and capable of self-delusion, which is very dangerous.

    At certain levels, yes. To some members of the regimes, they're useful lies. I think to many others it fits their worldview

    I don't think the truth is particularly high on the list of concerns. At the top: is the narrative politically useful?

  9. Perhaps officials convince themselves their propaganda is true. Perhaps they lie and distort knowingly because it serves their agenda. Idk.
