Instead of a check mark or music note, you’ll now see a grey background behind verified channel names across YouTube. You’ll also see a note about the change when you hover over a verified channel name to help everyone get familiar with it.

but isn't their already a gray background behind the creator's comments on their own video if you want to destroy your company, you don't have to make it hell for the users

Yes that feature does exist -- it shows up for all creators commenting on their own videos, so you can recognize that it's the official creator commenting. That feature is separate and it's not going away!
