It's not possible to add back the feature as it existed before, but this way will provide more security with the same convenience as before.

It means that we'll consider a fingerprint scanner to be a baseline requirement for new devices just as we do with 64-bit and verified boot.

And? It's a second factor that's available. It's more convenient than pressing the power button. Might as well be used now.

There's no reason to expect any more Nexus/Pixel devices without a fingerprint scanner. Perhaps one more tablet, at most.
