having a been a big time eu3 and vicky2 player I can say they've actually gotten a lot better at making "games" rather than just autism fidget toys

Vicky 2 is amazing but the AI and infamy system have aged so badly. The only way I can play it now is at some point before 1870 blowing through the infamy cap completely and fighting the entire world. Cautiously optimistic they won't ruin one of my favourite games with Vicky 3.

I hope the civ/unciv system is better, I like playing as non-european countries and trying to catch up/leapfrog, but the vicky2 "westernization" system is awful

Yeah, that was one of the major flaws. It's not bad as Japan since you can rush through it so quickly if you know the tricks including manually stockpiling military resources because your priority on the world market is ridiculously low and it can't obtain them automatically.

In my opinion they ruined EU4 with the ridiculous amount of poorly thought out mechanics they piled on with the DLC approach. It worked out better with CK2 and it's unclear at this point if their approach for CK3 is going to work well. Would prefer better thought out expansions.
