OKAY SO i have successfully completed the entire "become a go contributor" process and opened my PR, which I now suspect they will probably reject for "the commit message contains things that look suspiciously like Markdown" or similar reasons

I'm so confused what "doesn't support it" could even mean in this context. It's literally plain text

It's a Go commit message style convention they may or may not enforce in practice. They're apparently very annoyed by people using Markdown syntax in commit messages. I'd guess using 4 space indented code blocks, *emphasis*, etc. wouldn't count, but they do hate space indents.
