Asahi Linux news cycles have made it blatantly clear just how *bad* Google search quality is these days. Every time Phoronix/El Reg/co put out an article, the SERPs are filled with *dozens* of automated copycat/synonym-replacer sites, ranking higher than other real articles.

Right *now*, for me, organic result #4 for "torvalds asahi" is a ripoff of the El Reg article with the text auto-edited. It's nuts. Are they even trying?

... OMG. I just tried Bing. They suck at deduping (I get the same article like 4 times), but I had to go to page 6 to find one of the blatant autospam sites, and real articles were a lot more visible. WTF. ... am I switching to Bing?!

Replying to and
ahrefs.com launched a search engine (yep.com) with their huge crawling database but their search algorithm is terrible so it's not very useful beyond searching a db almost as large as Google's but with different coverage to find obscure things.
