2000 USD / month at GCP isn't a lot, but 2000 USD / month at OVH would be huge and would cover our current server costs with another 1500 USD / month to spare for development build servers and more.

GCP credit is what we were able to get because a Google employee pushed for it on our behalf. We have no interest in hosting our production services there so we were just using it for development builds, which is a very good thing since it got so screwed up and still isn't fixed.

We were using the whole 2000 USD / month for a development build server on GCP that's comparable to ovhcloud.com/en/bare-metal/, so that money would go 4x further on OVH. It would go 8x further on Hetzner compared to GCP, and Hetzner would be perfectly fine for developer builds.

I was planning on paying for 1 or 2 dedicated servers on Hetzner for development builds when we got the 2000 USD / month GCP credit. That's the only reason we were using GCP for this. I think that's helpful context on why I'm upset about them charging $3000 they shouldn't have.
That $3000 would have gone literally 8x further on the platform that I was intending to use for this purpose. It's not simply that they did something nice for us (giving us credit) and then we had to pay. It's 8x more expensive than what I'd have been using without the credit.
