Why is Chrome font rendering on Linux so much worse than Firefox? Firefox is on the left -- everything's beautifully laid out, close to perfect to my eyes. Chrome on the other hand, the t's have a weird space after them, the i's meld into the o's--it looks so bad in comparison

Annoyingly, it seems like the width of the viewport makes a big difference. If I bump it down from 750 to 749px it makes it look better, and 748 makes it worse again. Something about the way Chrome pixel-aligns text layout is weird

Replying to
I think that page uses whatever requesting the virtual `sans` font ends up providing. Can check that with `fc-match sans`. You could have broken fonts installed that are getting used. You could try using gist.github.com/thestinger/d9d with your choice of fonts to set those explicitly.
