Indeed. Thank you so much for grapheneos which allows me to completely disable these annoyances. That was one of the first things I did after installing the OS on my phone.

Canada misusing Presidential Alerts for every single type of wireless alert probably scared the hell out of a lot of people today. Getting woken up at 6am by a siren during a geopolitical crisis involving a nuclear power is great. Decided to just stay in bed for the apocalypse.

It has the same settings as AOSP and the stock OS on Pixels so there isn't a toggle for the Presidential Alert level. You can disable the wireless emergency alerts app with adb shell. US/Canada disallow disabling Presidential Alerts in the OS but Canada misuses it for everything.

I'm confused. Isnt this the presidential alerts? This is what I disabled and I did not receive any alert this morning. I also believe you are mistaken about canada rules. I am pretty sure providers are not suppose to allow users to disable it.

No, that's the overall alert configuration. Presidential alerts are a specific alert level which does not have a toggle and isn't listed there. Canada sends every alert as a presidential. Those toggles work fine in US and elsewhere but they don't do anything for Canada's alerts.

The alerts are regional and you aren't supposed to receive them outside of the region specified for the alert. The system isn't perfect and not everyone receives them. If you have a Canadian SIM, they rebrand presidential alerts to the bilingual name Canada has chosen for it.
