Fairphone 2 came out 2015, still getting security updates: support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/artic lol?
There's a 2020 Nokia 5.3 I own in the Android One program, and it is stuck on the Android 10 May 1st security update. Go figure.

Did a bit of digging. The lack of response from on this tweet about firmware is particularly damning: twitter.com/Fairphone/stat
Can't find any info on it on the forum either. Are people ignorant to it, or censored?
Glad I didn't make the jump... Yikes.

Hello, our 6-year-old Fairphone 2 is being upgraded to Android 10 - that's 7 years of software support. We've proven that it’s possible to support devices for longer than the industry standard
the FP4 won't be the exception! Best, Lore

It is extremely misleading. If a device isn't secure anymore, I would argue that it is no longer fit for purpose, and thus any "support" in the form of OS updates on a *smartphone* means very little, a device expected to go online and handle banking.

Fairphone 2 was released December 2015. Never really got proper security updates and stopped receiving them within a couple years. Android 10 was released in September 2019 and shipping that in 2021 is more like 4 years of support (without security updates), several years late.

Fairphone 2 shipped with Android 5.1 even though it should have shipped with Android 6 which was released earlier than year and available to vendors much earlier.
They did 4 major OS updates from Android 6. That's decent but they were years late and without security updates.

GrapheneOS can't support their devices because they don't meet our security requirements. We also want devices to get 4 years of proper security support which seems unlikely for the Fairphone 4 due to using a year old SoC. 6th gen Pixels have 5 year minimum guarantee from launch.
It's unclear how long the SoC in the Fairphone 4 will be supported. We don't have that information from Qualcomm and our understanding is that it wasn't a new SoC platform at launch so they aren't committed to providing 4 years of support (which would result in 3 years for FP4).

They could be clear about how long their devices will receive that kind of support. Instead, they commit to providing very long term support without explaining what form that will take or how long the device will have security support. It's highly misleading and pure marketing.

Looks like I replied to a tweet you deleted, and now the reply has disappeared. The general gist:
Convinced me to buy a Pixel 6 and install Graphene, not tried Graphene out since the rebrand from Copperhead a couple years back. Really come a long way, impressed. No-brainer.
