Fairphone 2 came out 2015, still getting security updates: support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/artic lol? There's a 2020 Nokia 5.3 I own in the Android One program, and it is stuck on the Android 10 May 1st security update. Go figure.

It is extremely misleading. If a device isn't secure anymore, I would argue that it is no longer fit for purpose, and thus any "support" in the form of OS updates on a *smartphone* means very little, a device expected to go online and handle banking.

Fairphone 2 was released December 2015. Never really got proper security updates and stopped receiving them within a couple years. Android 10 was released in September 2019 and shipping that in 2021 is more like 4 years of support (without security updates), several years late.

Fairphone 2 shipped with Android 5.1 even though it should have shipped with Android 6 which was released earlier than year and available to vendors much earlier. They did 4 major OS updates from Android 6. That's decent but they were years late and without security updates.

GrapheneOS can't support their devices because they don't meet our security requirements. We also want devices to get 4 years of proper security support which seems unlikely for the Fairphone 4 due to using a year old SoC. 6th gen Pixels have 5 year minimum guarantee from launch.
