This is so overblown. If your disk controller has battery backup, then you get durability even without flushing disk controller cache constantly. And every laptop has battery backup. (If you trust your battery controller firmware.) We’ve been doing this same debate for decades.

Well, this is unfortunate. It turns out Apple's custom NVMe drives are amazingly fast - if you don't care about data integrity. If you do, they drop down to HDD performance. Thread.

A battery backup also doesn't save your data if there's an issue like a kernel panic. You mentioned that in your thread already. There can also still be a power loss even with a battery. For the vast majority of use cases, data integrity is dramatically more important than IOPS.
