I get why they'd want to add private payments which would be controversial but I'd be behind that. I don't get why they'd do it like this.
I don't even get why, except greed. It gives governments a perfect, completely legitimate reason to claim authority to regulate/ban encrypted messengers: that they're not being used for speech but for money laundering. 😡

It presupposes the ancap crypto shitheads' premise "cryptocurrency is just speech so you can't regulate my transactions because freeze peach!!!11" whose obvious flip side is "hmm, maybe speech shouldn't be so free". I won't trade our free speech for their money laundering games.
