The hilarious thing about people using that quote is that Satoshi was wrong about the thing he was discussing.

How was the response wrong? Bitcoin has functional light clients. They may have been right about 0-conf but it's not the approach Bitcoin took.
You can even run your own Lightning node as a light client via Neutrino which is the approach used by non-custodial Lightning wallets.
Satoshi intended to have support for payment channels and included features with the intention of supporting it in the early releases. Should look at en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Payment_c. Satoshi's plans for payment channels very closely resemble private channel (no routing) Lightning.
If we go by the consensus, Satoshi was wrong about 0conf.
