Thread about our permissively licensed (MIT) replacement for android-prepare-vendor: twitter.com/GrapheneOS/sta adevtool automates far more of the device maintenance work. It will make it easier to maintain device support and it will be more complete and adaptable to any changes.

The replacement for android-prepare-vendor (adevtool) is MIT licensed and will be published soon. It's already fully ready for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. carriersettings-extractor and extract_android_ota_payload have now been released under permissive licensing for use by adevtool.

This tool was developed by the lead developer of ProtonAOSP () who is also one of the GrapheneOS developers. We'll be incorporating existing tools into it for handling APN / CarrierConfig generation and firmware extraction which are also now permissively licensed too.

It's currently not as simple to use but it's already dramatically easier to maintain and is more complete. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are essentially our best supported devices because of this tooling. We'll aim to get the documentation, etc. written and published in the next days.
