One of the most disappointing thing to me about post-Bitcoin era blockchains is definitely a lack of good light client support! This is a bad trend, normalised By Ethereum. Bitcoin has many faults, but it has amazing light support, with an amazing light client app on mobile.

This is also my complaint with Google's Certificate Transparency implementation on Chrome. The browser doesn't check a Merkle inclusion proof for certificates, it just checks a signature from Google, so the Merkle tree in Certificate Transparency is somewhat pointless.

They require inclusion in a non-Google CT log too so in practice it enforces that there's a signature/timestamp from a Google log and a non-Google log. It would be nicer if it checked for proof of inclusion but it's far from one of the pressing issues with the very flawed WebPKI.
