yeah "the nft bay" and all of the furor about the "furry nft" are obviously either misguided at best or gamestonks-level "managed opposition" things at worst

it's also just all based on the premise that any of the images are actually worth saving copies of, which i think is not supported by the evidence

The most prominent ones are set up as social clubs where you buy membership. Spreading largely auto-generated avatars tied to their club memberships isn't hurting them. The price clearly doesn't come from art but rather people wanting to be in a social club with celebrities, etc.

People want to be part of a social club where people like or are members. Low resolution auto-generated pictures aren't what makes them members. Incredibly stupid but not in the way many people are portraying it. People are buying social status tokens.
It's similar to limited availability, tradeable aesthetic items in video games and they'll probably turn into the same thing. No one cares if you copy the art for a limited edition hat from a video game. It's probably not particularly good art. Main draw is social status in-game.

I'm sure a lot of these prominent collections of things will literally be integrated into video games. It's the same grift as selling people hats. I'm not sure what there is to get particularly mad about. The extreme outrage about it seems ridiculous and is just promoting it...
