Journalists rely on having the same rights as everyone else and anyone can do journalism. Only approved members of press having rights isn't how it works. It doesn't matter if the government thinks someone isn't a legitimate journalist. Everyone has rights, awful people included.

These rights (protecting sources etc.) apply to doing journalism. They don't apply to doing hit jobs, fraud, etc. just because you misclassify these activities as "journalism".

In any case, defending fascists who are trying to end the rights you stand for because you're "worried that not defending them would set a precedent against those rights" does not work. It just helps the fascists destroy those rights quicker. Find non-fascists to make your cases.
