An advantage of Linux is the opportunities it provides for learning. For example, if Zoom were not crashing right now when I'm trying to hold office hours I'd never have bothered to understand the distinction between the user and kernel mode components of NVIDIA's drivers!

It can happen with other things since the cause is doing in-place upgrades where newly launched processes start using new executables, libraries, etc. but the already running processes and kernel aren't upgraded.

Fairly annoying that Dovecot immediately starts failing to accept IMAP connections after being upgraded until you restart it. The way traditional Linux distributions handle upgrades is ridiculously fragile and broken.

Online updates for applications and a subset of the OS are fine but they need to be implemented properly where stuff needed by what's currently running doesn't just suddenly go away or get replaced. I don't really blame the applications, drivers, etc. but rather package manager.
