I'll be getting a 16" M1 Max model too, but first apparently I need to sign up for a better credit card...
(Japanese credit cards really aren't great with limits, and Apple is unique in not taking alternate payment methods...)
Do you have the option to create a negative balance by paying off more than your credit card balance early? It's usually an option in the US/Canada.
It's how I would work around having a $2000 limit but they let me raise it to $7500 and I haven't bought anything more than that.
Negative balances on credit cards are a very normal thing that happens regularly. Getting refunds is a common way to end up with a negative balance. Standard thing that happens if you overpay in US/Canada is ending up with a negative balance so then you're further from limit.
I'm not talking about overdraft but rather the opposite of it: the credit card company owes you the money. I've never heard of fees for making a credit card payment before it was necessary. Just not guaranteed the purchase limit will expand based on it.
For years I had to rely on this because they wouldn't give me more than a $2000 limit. If I needed to buy something for $4500, I'd just pay off balance + $2500 and buy it. It's just a more advanced form of making early payments. I'm sure not all credit cards support it though.
