Kate, could you say why so that it's obvious to people please, Otherwise people may think it's unimportant and not bother. A lot of us don't understand the issues but we want to.

Should be possible to change email addresses and usernames. Most apps/sites shouldn't ask for people's names, gender, etc. in the first place.
Payment methods like credit cards often require names but it's tied to a specific payment method and often isn't the same person anyway.
Should be minimizing handling sensitive personal information. It's a liability if there's a data breach whether it's an external compromise or misuse by an insider. Many of these issues are avoided by just respecting user privacy and not being creepy.
