oh, coreboot wants to take away turbo boost because there's no battery. well, guess i will just patch that out.

Years ago I ran into an annoying issue with Intel CPU configuration:

The way Linux loads microcode clears a bunch of the CPU state and would wipe out nearly all the configuration I'd set up in the motherboard for it. Have to only use motherboard updates.
There's a really complex MSR-based configuration and monitoring system for setting the turbo ratio limits, per-core multipliers and a bunch of other things. A locked CPU just makes a bunch of that stuff read-only. You could technically overclock a CPU writing to that in the OS.
