Fairly annoying that Dovecot immediately starts failing to accept IMAP connections after being upgraded until you restart it. The way traditional Linux distributions handle upgrades is ridiculously fragile and broken.

Yup, if I see dovecot in the list of upgrades, I immediately upgrade just it and then restart – been doing this for years.
There's also a setting to ignore version mismatches: doc.dovecot.org/settings/core/
