What lameness is this? Why is this a single LEGO piece ?

I have some similar background scenery pieces (cliffs, mountains) from 17+ year old LEGO Star Wars sets. youtube.com/watch?v=mNqBI7 set which was released when I was 7 has a huge piece for the entire mountain. The entire base of it is that one piece + 5 large single layer ones.

I recall the first castle-set I had (too long ago) had single pieces for the window frames which I hated, because the first castles I saw (as a younger kid) were more “built from scratch”

I haven't seen many newer sets but I think they probably do less of it now because they have a much broader range of common pieces reused across sets. Had a ton of the robotics stuff when I was around 10 to 13 since I'd gotten tired of the normal stuff. Trying to find the names.
