It looks a lot better on a HiDPI screen. It's too quirky and irregularly shaped to work without it.
It looks somewhat less bad on Windows than Linux too. I have 2 of the same kind of 27" 4k monitor next to each other so it's easy to compare. 161 DPI isn't really enough for it.
I don't think it renders properly with the typical open source rendering stack. It has a subtle blurriness and inconsistent width / brightness. It doesn't have that on Windows. I can't usually tell the difference with high quality fonts like Source Sans Pro / Source Code Pro.
