Canada Revenue Agency nonsense from 2018 is finally resolved after a massive ordeal.
They expected me to pay $8k in additional taxes on non-existent income. They've now resolved the dispute by giving me a $3.2k refund on what I already paid.
Why did they give me hell for that?

I was just trying to figure out if there's a way to avoid being forced to use SMS 2FA but apparently I'd need to pretend I don't own a phone and mail them. Great.

It's an impressively bad SMS 2FA implementation too:

It doesn't even work properly with VoIP numbers.
My earliest experience with them was needing to start paying taxes and not being allowed to do it.
They'd somehow made a typo in my birth date when receiving my information from the federal government. It was a massive hassle to get that fixed to be allowed to pay taxes...
