I don't have a good long-term memory for faces. It's perplexing when I run into someone I knew years ago who recognizes me.
When I was in high school, I randomly ran into a few people I hadn't seen since I was around 6 to 8 years old and I have no clue how they recognized me.
This has happened to me, to some extent, with my vision rapidly degenerating in a short period of time. Depending on lighting it's very hard to see faces well, or tell if someone is looking at me, etc.
I'm very near sighted but glasses/contacts correct for it so it's not much of a factor.
Does mean it's harder to recognize people at a distance since everything is smaller, but I could wear contacts instead of glasses. Maybe modern leave in disposable ones are worth the hassle.
Experiences like https://twitter.com/DanielMicay/status/1422748860376666112… feel like encountering someone with supernatural abilities since I can't do that at all.
Had a similar experience running into a woman who I used to be good friends with around 6 to 8. How could she possibly recognize me when I was ~22?
My awesome first grade teacher would have last seen me around age 7 and somehow recognized me walking along a street in my neighbourhood when I was about 16.
No clue how she remembered one of students she knew for 1 year enough to recognize them esp. with glasses + wavy hair.
