It's not quite that simple because the power supply is designed to adjust its output to keep voltages constant under different current draws, but yes, if it can't keep up with demand then voltages will drop, and that's not ideal long term.

It's a fairly high quality PSU and would likely cut power long before anything unsafe. 650W is definitely enough. They're covering themselves in case someone uses it with a 16+ core overclocked CPU and complains that it blew out their under-capacity sketchy PSU which this isn't.

Unless there are 20x HDDs or something crazy like that it's definitely enough. You'd probably want to bump up to 850W if you had something like a Ryzen 9 5950X (16 core) that you were going to overclock. Even with that CPU, it would be enough if you weren't overclocking it.

Her card draws 310W, but I'm pretty sure from talking to her that the rest of her system never draws more than maybe 200W under severe load, so yeah. I would update the PSU if it were me, because it's a nice GPU, but then I run a 1200W PSU because I overbuild everything. :)

Yeah, although it's worth noting EVGA is essentially rebranding other PSUs and the actual manufacturer of most of the components varies. They used to have amazing 80 Plus Titanium ones made by Super Flower but sadly they seem to have stopped making any more of those, AFAICT.

I know they do some rebranding but (at least in my experience) EVGA is really good about return policies/warranty support, which is a good sign that they have someone caring about what they're willing to rebrand just to keep their warranty costs down.

Yeah, they generally have very high quality products. Just wanted to point out that at least for PSUs, they don't make most of it. SuperNOVA 650 G2 appears to be one of the older Super Flower models which were actually significantly better than the current generation ones.

It's not one of the higher end platinum/titanium ones but it's still a fairly high end PSU from by a company (Super Flower) known to overbuild things in a very robust way. I doubt the full load will be more than ~500W and those PSUs run fine above capacity in practice anyway.

There are tests for that specific PSU and it's a really good one: techpowerup.com/review/evga-su. At least when it was new, it was likely perfectly capable of doing 120%+ capacity without any real issues. Super Flower really overbuilds their products. Opposite of usual approach...
