If only Bitcoin had used a memory-intensive algorithm rather than just a computation-expensive algorithm, we’d be able to buy video cards today =(

It's almost entirely mined on ASICs these days. Ethereum is the main currency being mined on GPUs and Monero for CPUs. If Ethereum really does switch away from proof of work, maybe there will be a temporary drop in GPU demand. I'm sure something else will replace it though.
