Mostly people buying something they already own since you can enable Intel PTT / AMD PSP fTPM in the UEFI configuration on any recent CPU. Same class of weirdness as every motherboard I've ever bought having hardware virtualization disabled by default. Why???

Almost every CPU in the last 5-7 years has a TPM. For Intel its called the "Intel PTT" which you set to enabled. For AMD it would be "AMD PSP fTPM". TPMs have been required for OEM certification since at least 2015 and was announced in 2013: zdnet.com/article/new-bl
The next step is figuring out how to sell people the TPM they already own. Can make a web page selling people a TPM and then provide them with instructions on how to go into their UEFI configuration to enable the TPM they just purchased from you. Good business model.

right, but that’s what i mean, they’ll just sell new computers with the TPM already enabled, and most people will just buy it and not question anything.
