Very impressed with my pixel 3 xl's wifi hardware. There's an AP I've been using and most apple devices (iPhones and laptops) have issues talking to the AP. My phone works great and it's hotspot feature can reshare wifi so they use it, and it works.

Nexus 5X and all the Pixel phones use Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi. It got increasingly integrated into the Snapdragon SoC. It's not a separate chip and it's mostly just implemented via additional sandboxed processes for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the same baseband as cellular.

Also means that it's the same across most Android phones since most use Snapdragon. It's a very fancy and extremely over-engineered implementation. The qcacld driver for it is about 35% of the code being used in the kernel, either as source or compiled. It's a bit ridiculous.
