Package manager dependency solvers are so stupid. There is utterly no justifiable reason for upgrading python to cause an upgrade of libreoffice. I'm not picking on any particular package manager. Just the whole concept is fundamentally wrong somehow.

NixOS or Fuchsia (much cleaner) approach of opportunistically sharing dependencies is a nicer approach. Packages can be separate from each other without upgrading one and their dependencies forcing having side effects on another. Can avoid conflicts and invasive upgrades.

Sharing dependencies saves space and memory which is nice but the traditional design has very high friction. It also gets far messier when the dependencies aren't simply libraries but rather services like postgresql, etc. since it means having messy shared state across packages.

State shouldn't be shared between different services. Each service requires it's own database. Just don't share it. It will work.
