We don't pay enough attention to sound as the one truly Free truly universal connection method. Square figured it out and Apple had to actually remove the headphone jack from the iphone to keep people from doing more good things with it

Proposal: Create a simple web page somewhere that connects to WebAudio, records audio, & does a Commodore 64 modem type thing where it unpacks incoming audio into binary data it interprets as a package of javascript and resources. Then ship actual complete webgl games on cassette

Around 2014, like around the point I unfortunately burned out and stopped making games for a few years, I had a very fun project called Tone Argument which was a multiplayer vs game that did networking between phones by playing, and recording, game state encoded as audible sines

This never got past the design phase but I had a lot of ideas about how to do the "modem" protocol

Try gifsockets.twolfson.com and look at the network panel in the web console. You can see it submits requests to the server in a normal way but only receives data from the server via an infinite GIF stream.
