Wow, just checked my spam for my Grapl email and it's wild. I wonder if all of these companies offering their services realize that their emails are being automatically sent to spam.

For the GrapheneOS mail server, we enforce strict SPF (reject on hard or soft fail), DKIM (reject on errors such as DKIM signed but missing record) and DMARC along with only accepting mail via TLS. Eliminates nearly all spam. Fine with missing mail from broken servers.

Yeah the thing is it's not really "spam" in the sense of someone scamming me. It's more like recruiters and vendors and that sort of thing. So it's unsolicited and unwanted but not strictly malicious.

I consider that spam. So, for example, my GitHub profile has the toggle set to say that I'm not looking for a job. Any company that sends me job offers based on my GitHub profile is spamming me. It's at least less illegitimate if it's about something else like a study...

Most of the spam I get is an offer to do sketchy SEO or other forms of promotion / marketing for our web sites or apps. The rest is mostly an attempt to sell us email lists and contact info. Most of the domains I have as completely rejected are blatantly tied to that stuff.

It's not a lot because the other checks already filter out nearly all of it. Meanwhile, my Gmail account has 3506 emails in my spam folder right now. I look at it now and then because it's hilariously bad.

It's already up to 3512 spam emails. They roll in steadily throughout the day. Anyway, that's hopeless. Gmail filters are terrible.
There's little of hope of looking through all that nonsense without rotting my brain. If something goes to spam it's gone if I didn't expect it.

A nice example of why people should contact me via Matrix instead of email if they expect me to read it. I've marked so many emails as spam Gmail just defaults to thinking I consider almost everything spam now too. I have to set GitHub and OVH as not going to spam via filters.

I mark all marketing emails as Gmail as spam though... if I sign up for a service and they start sending me marketing emails without ever having shown me a toggle for that, it's being marked as spam. I hope others do the same so their emails just all go to spam for everyone.
