Maybe they should have created it as an actual non-profit instead of the UK version of a public benefit corporation. I realize that's a lot harder in Canada/US/UK but maybe people don't want to donate to a corporation with shareholders able to pay out dividends, etc. It's weird.

It being a public benefit corporation that's required to have social goals and balance those with profits doesn't change that it has shareholders gaining money from growth and optionally dividends. It's the wrong structure if they truly want it to be a non-profit as they imply.
