nothing about being a non-profit charity means you can't refuse donations when you know they're bad news

Can take donations anonymously and then you aren't influenced by who makes the donations and it's not a marketing opportunity for them. The money is perfectly good. It's the influence they gain with you and the ability to improve their public image through you that's the problem.
It's a pretty blatant way of exchanging money for improving the image of freenode and Andrew Lee. It's also pretty concerning considering that's pretty much how things started out with freenode.
