due to its frankly dangerous free tier. When you can accidentally incur more charges than your country’s per capita income overnight, it’s best to avoid the platform entirely.

Really no students should use AWS unless their intent is to learn that specific product as a job skill. The pricing is designed for VCs trapping startups, and is easily 10x or more the competitive rate for compute time.

like even after deleting everything from my account they charged me like 20 cents every month and it turns out some instance in some region had some volume that wasn't deleted when i deleted the instance

Metered bandwidth is particularly terrible. It's designed in a way that's clearly meant to be anti-competitive by punishing you for using non-AWS services. Compare to ovhcloud.com/en/public-clou where you get unmetered bandwidth and actually get more public than private bandwidth...

Comparable EC2 service pricing: aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/on. The difference is even bigger if you're comparing persistent VPS or dedicated servers to doing it with AWS. Of course, with AWS, you get a huge amount of other services but you're paying massive premiums to have all that.

Also, if you compare OVH persistent VPS (shared resources) and dedicated servers (with optional guaranteed bandwidth) to the AWS offerings, the difference is even larger. AWS is perfect for a startup burning VC money or a huge company with small IT. It's ridiculous otherwise...
