I worry about this kind of thing a lot. I get a friends request on Facebook, and it's someone I know with a lot of friends in common, so I accept. I used to ping people on other channels to confirm, and when it's really important I still do, but people find it very weird.

Someone has been impersonating Bromite's (bromite.org) developer on Telegram. They convinced a bunch of room admins and a lot of people in the rooms. Once they had a couple trusted people convinced, they chained from them to everyone else. The web of trust at work...

They still have some people duped including room admins for rooms about open source projects, including official rooms. It's a mess. They initially admitted to what they'd done which was helpful in the rooms where they admitted to it but now they're covering it up + accusing us.

It's 100% known that it wasn't them now. They did reply at github.com/bromite/bromit. It's really frustrating dealing with this stuff on a daily basis. This is actually really bad though. The trolls rarely ever achieve this level of success.
