When they partially opened up the source code for their server again, they retroactively published a few of the tags. Why is there a huge range missing? Have they really not touched github.com/signalapp/Cont since 2019? They pick and choose what to publish and have major delays.

Signal, particularly their official server, is a proprietary service like Telegram. It's not that far from being open source, but for some reason they hold things back. If they want to say it's open source they should actually publish everything including how to use the sources.

This thread exists to point out that integrating support for Signal into an OS is integrating support for a proprietary service. Obviously, microG implements proprietary services too, and an insecure implementation of them at that. What's the point of lying about these things?

the whole contact discovery has been reworked since then. just installed signal to new phone without contacts and contacts seem to persist on signal. they announced that saving contacts on server side was required to make alternative IDs to phone numbers possible...
