Ugh. Apparently irssi is taking the "non-political" stance of promoting freenode. It seems I should take the "non-political" stance of using another IRC client. Sigh.

I tried it but could never get used to the fluff and the subtle differences
What it, however, does really well, especially when compared to irssi, is character set conversion which was important for me back then due to Japanese IRC channels using a plethora of encodings
