freenode just seized control of the #zig channel without warning.
we moved to http://libera.chat on day 1, but jesus christ this is so hostile.
Now the topic no longer tells people how to get to the new server.
They wiped our ChanServ access control lists but they somehow screwed up forwarding to the channel they created so no one actually ended up there. I had configured MLOCK and maybe it broke this.
Ended up taking the good old approach of social engineering them so we're back in control of our channels for the time being.
I don't know how long that will be since we did migrate away and will still be telling people to leave, just not via the topic and entrymsg, etc.
I quieted my Matrix handle on the IRC channels so I can at least keep pinging people to join the new Matrix rooms and leave the old ones bridged to freenode.
I wish we'd made standalone Matrix rooms from the beginning and set up the bridge ourselves in a way we could remove it.
When a ## channel already existed such as a troll creating one they ended up migrating people into that existing room rather than their own.
Some projects had the ## room themselves and just ended up with the users in another channel they control anyway.
Very sloppy takeover.
