The matrix-irc-appservice bridge in our legacy Matrix rooms decided the IRC puppets it made are actual IRC users and made Matrix puppets for them, so now it has Matrix puppets for Matrix users. It's great. There's no way we'll be using this kind of bridge in the new Matrix rooms.

We're now using matterbridge to bridge Matrix, Telegram, libera.chat (IRC) and OFTC (IRC). It's much less invasive and doesn't make a huge mess.
Best experience is using #grapheneos:grapheneos.org and #grapheneos-offtopic:matrix.org on Matrix.

The bridge is a compromise to avoid having the community fragment due to some users having a strong preference for IRC or Telegram.
It would be cleaner if everyone used Matrix. The bridge will hopefully nudge people towards it since they can see nearly all activity is on Matrix.
